Collaborative Scientific Research Programme (CSRP)


CEFIPRA supports high quality research groups through collaborative research projects in advanced areas of basic and applied science to nurture scientific competency through Collaborative Scientific Research Programme.
In accordance with the updated CSRP guidelines, CEFIPRA has established two annual Calls for Proposals:


a Thematic Call and a General Call.


Following are Thematic Areas (Call for Proposal *Open : Deadline 20th February 2025)


1. Health:
Sub areas:
i) One Health & Climate Change,
ii) Early detection of emerging/important pathogens,
iii) Developments of new vaccines and therapeutics for infectious diseases,
iv) AI for early diagnosis of emerging/important diseases,
v) Comprehensive studies on metabolic and cardiovascular diseases and
vi) Novel therapeutics and biological for emerging/important diseases.


2. Marine Sciences:
Sub areas:
i) Underwater Systems,
ii) Instrumentation & Robotics,
iii) Advanced Materials for Floating and Mobile Systems,
iv) Geosciences from the Coast to Deep Waters,
v) Physics and Biochemistry of Oceans,
vi) Oceans Observations & Modeling including the Ocean & Climate Nexus,
vii) Ocean & Climate and Marine Biology & Pollution.

Eligibility to Apply

Principal Collaborators and Joint Collaborators (Indian & French) should have permanent position in an Indian or French University/R&D Institution. They should meet national level eligibility criteria with respect to the operation of grants and age of retirement. ORCID/ResearcherID is mandatory for submission of proposal under the programme.

DST-INRIA Targeted Programme


BETWEEN

Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (Inria) launched a targeted programme to foster collaboration between scientific Communities of two countries in the area of Information and Communication Science & Technology. In India, on behalf of the Department of Science & Technology, Indo-French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR/CEFIPRA) invites proposals from the Indian scientists / researchers.


Areas of collaboration


The Project proposal will be supported in the following scientific areas:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Cybersecurity
  • Signal Processing
  • Digital Health

Eligibility to Apply

Applicants from both countries must fulfil the following requirements:

Indian Side :

Applicants have to hold a permanent position as scientists/ Faculty members in universities/ deemed universities, academic institutes and national research and development laboratories/institutes.

French Side :

Application

The joint proposal shall be written in English. Proposal submitted to only one Party will not be considered. All applicants must fulfil their national eligibility rules for their research grant application. A format is given for the submission of proposal. Applicants from Indian side should ensure that French collaborator must submit the proposal to Inria in their specified format.


Evaluation of project proposal

After the closure date of call, Inria and DST will exchange list of proposals, received on their side. Commonly received proposals will be evaluated by DST, CNRS and Inria according to their own evaluation rules, and will rank the proposals based on scientific quality and interest.
The evaluation criteria will be based on the following:

  • Relevance of the proposal to the call
  • Technical and Scientific quality of the proposal
  • Quality of the project management & methodology
  • Global Impact of the proposal
  • Quality of the consortium and good synergies between the partners
  • Mobilization of resources
  • Added value to be expected from French-Indian research collaboration
  • Balanced Scientific and Financial contribution

Project Funding

Jointly selected proposals will be funded in India by DST and in France by Inria. The joint proposal must meet the criteria of the funding institutions for consideration. Each project will be funded for a period of three years. The indicative funding from each side will be up to Euro 10000-15000 (Rs. 10-15 lakhs) per project per year.
The support will be given under the following heads:

  • International travel (including airfare (India to France & vice-versa), daily allowance, accommodation and domestic travel in the receiving country during a participant’s stay abroad) for researchers, engineers, post-doctoral Fellows, Ph.D Students as per CEFIPRA norms
  • Support for JRF /SRF / RA/ PDF (as per DST guidelines)
  • Contingency Upto Rs. 50,000 per year.

The cost of accident and sickness insurance during travel will not be supported under this Programme. Since, the project is supported mainly for collaboration; applicants have to indicate about the status of co-funding.


Intellectual Property

The rights of intellectual property arising from the program shall be, in principle, the joint property of the project participants and their employing institutions. In respect of each result, which is to be protected, the project participants shall decide the modalities of protecting the rights. For each selected joint proposal, the project participants shall prepare a joint Intellectual Property Management Plan. A template for this IP Plan will be provided to partner institutions of this programme. Fund will be released only after receiving of the mutually accepted IP Plan.

DST-CNRS Targeted Programme

Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique of France (CNRS)


Following the Memorandum of Understanding signed between DST and CNRS in May 2015, Indian and French research institutions wish to strengthen scientific cooperation between both countries by contributing to researchers’ mobility and by fostering joint research. In India, on behalf of the Department of Science & Technology, Indo-French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA) invites proposals from the Indian scientists / researchers, organize expert & review committee meetings for management/ disbursement of funds to the approved projects, etc.


Areas of collaboration


  • Biodiversity, Ecosystems and Human-environment interactions (including terrestrial/marine, past/present environments and socio-ecosystems)
  • Detector and theory developments in nuclear and particle physics
  • Engineering and Systems Sciences

Eligibility to Apply

Applicants from both countries must fulfil the following requirements:

Indian Side :

Applicants have to hold a permanent position as scientists/ faculty members in universities/ deemed universities, academic institutes and national research and development laboratories/institutes.

French Side :

Applicants have to carry out their research activity in a CNRS research unit. Please visit website of CNRS for more details.


Application

Each project must be submitted separately to CNRS and to CEFIPRA according to each institution’s own procedures. The joint proposal shall be written in English. Proposal submitted to only one Party will not be considered. All applicants must fulfil their national eligibility rules for their research grant application. A format is given for the submission of proposal. Applicants from Indian side should ensure that French collaborator must submit the proposal to CNRS in their specified format.

Projects to be funded are selected by a Joint Selection Committee composed of representatives and Scientific Chairs of the funding institutions. The Joint Selection Committee takes into account the recommendations of Scientific Chairs and the strategic priorities of the funding institutions.


Project Funding

Jointly selected proposals will be funded in India by DST through CEFIPRA and in France by CNRS (for CNRS Research units). The joint proposal must meet the criteria of the funding institutions for consideration. Each project will be funded for a period of three years. Joint research projects will be financed by Indian and French funding partners for a period of three (3) years.
Indian partner: 10 000 – 15 000€ (Rs. 8-12 lakhs), per project and per year.

The support will be given under the following heads:

  • International travel (including airfare (India to France &vice-versa), daily allowance, accommodation and domestic travel in the receiving country during a participant’s stay abroad) for researchers, engineers, post-doctoral Fellows, PhD Students, as per CEFIPRA norms

CEFIPRA organises seminars/workshops/Training Schools in topics of current relevance and interest to both India and France in the areas of Science &Technology. Such events help in initiating interactions among scientists and technologists of the two nations and are expected to result in collaborative research projects.


For a seminar to be organised under CEFIPRA


  • Involvement of at least 4-5 leading groups from different institutions of both the countries
  • Involvement of the young scientists of the hosting country as a part of the attendees is encouraged
  • Participants are expected to be present during entire duration of the seminar
  • Seminar can be either held in India or in France

Seminars/Workshops/Training Schools organised in India and France should be almost equal in number with equal weightage if organised in France or India.



Financial support

  • Financial support is provided for domestic and international travel and logistics arrangements relevant to the event.
  • The budget estimate should be realistic as possible. The budget estimate can vary upto a maximum of 25 K euros ( approx. 20 lakhs).

The following are necessary for submission of proposals of seminars/workshops

  • Seminar proposal must be jointly submitted by a French and an Indian coordinator
  • There can be maximum 25-30 participants from the host country and 10-15 participants from the other country
